Report of limited establishment of red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren in Arizona
Southwestern Entomologist 13(4): 307-308
The formicid Solenopsis invicta is routinely distributed to new locations on nursery stock shipped from infested areas. Workers were found foraging in a greenhouse in Arizona, a state with no previous report of infestations, in August, 1986. The greenhouse had been abandoned for 3-4 weeks, and it seemed unlikely that the pest could have been carried over from an infested shipment.
