Reproduction of Karelian birch

Reproduction of Karelian birch

Lesnoe Khozyaistvo ( 9): 40-41

An account is given of experience in the propagation of the Karelian form of birch (both Betula pendula and B. pubescens) having figured grain. It is being grown increasingly in plantations, not only in Soviet Karelia but also in many other central regions of the RSFSR. Seed orchards have been established and seed reserve stands set aside. The plantation target in 1986-1990 in the RSFSR is 1226 ha, of which 1000 ha will be in Karelia.
