Reproduction of Varroa jacobsoni mite on worker and drone brood in different seasons of the year

The investigations were carried out on 6 honeybee colonies in 1985 and 1986. All brood-containing combs were removed from the studied colonies over the period from mid-April to the end of September at 6-week intervals on 5 dates. Selected cells were examined for all stages of V. jacobsoni; in all, about 50 000 cells were examined. Each investigated parameter varied substantially within a colony, but significant differences between dates occurred for most of the characteristics studied.
