Response of rainfed ragi cultivars to nitrogen

The performance of 3 Eleusine coracana entries was compared with that of the standard variety HR911 under 3 N levels (50, 75 and 100 kg/ha). MR2 produced the highest grain and straw yields (3022 and 8630 kg/ha, respectively), most tillers/plant (3.73) and the greatest grain weight/ear (7.51 g). Finger length ranged from 7.49 cm in MR2 to 9.16 cm in MR821. Increased N levels enhanced yields and tillers/plant significantly in all entries, but finger length and grain weight/ear were unaffected.
