Insufficient water supply is one of the most prominent factors limiting yields in the GDR. Experiments were therefore carried out to investigate the suitability of waste waters emanating from a variety of sources for crop irrigation. Waste waters from the potato processing industry are well suited to irrigation purposes. As they contain high concentrations of nitrogen and potassium, these should be considered in the annual fertilizing budget.
