Seasonal variation of appetite in ruminants

Seasonal variation of appetite in ruminants

Recent developments in ruminant nutrition 2: 34-45

Ruminants have adapted to natural environmental and nutritional conditions so as to survive and reproduce. Prominent among the difficulties they must face is the seasonal cycle of climate and herbage growth. The development of physiological responses to photoperiod allows them time for growth and reproduction to occur during summer when climate and feed supply are most favourable.
