Selection index for milk production traits in a dairy herd

Selection index for milk production traits in a dairy herd

Proceedings The Third Egyptian British Conference on Animals, Fish and Poultry Production, 7-10 Oct 1989, Alexandria, Egypt ( 3 (1)): 335-340

A selection index (I1) using 1st-lactation milk yield and persistency was compared with an index (I2) incorporating persistency and peak yield. The expected correlated response in milk yield using I1 was higher than that expected from direct selection; for peak yield, direct selection was superior.
