These three introductory articles introduce a more technical series of short papers in this number on various ways of modernizing the GDR livestock farming sector and improving the utilization of existing buildings and capital equipment. Rehda emphasizes the general need to maximize cereal production and harmonize livestock and crop production with attention to the structure of livestock production and its appropriate location.
