Studies on airborne dust and airborne microbes in the agricultural structures (I). On the environmental characteristics of dairy barns

Studies on airborne dust and airborne microbes in the agricultural structures (I). On the environmental characteristics of dairy barns

Journal of the Society of Agricultural Structures 19(1): 16-21

From measured data, it is shown that concentration of airborne microbes in dairy barns depends on various environmental factors. The concentration of airborne dust was below 0.2 mg/msuperscript 3, and the airborne microbes were counted from 1 to 200 colony forming particles/litre. It was concluded that common (viable) bacteria were more suitable than true fungi or Escherichia coli as an index of the microbial counts in the dairy barns.
