Studies on the effect of crop load on fruit composition of late-maturing citrus trees. I. Effects of different leaf:fruit ratios on the fruit quality and leaf nutrient content of Kawano natsudaidai trees

Studies on the effect of crop load on fruit composition of late-maturing citrus trees. I. Effects of different leaf:fruit ratios on the fruit quality and leaf nutrient content of Kawano natsudaidai trees

Bulletin of the Fruit Tree Research Station, D Kuchinotsu, Japan (9): 63-80

In studies with 16-year-old trees, fruits were thinned in Aug. or Sep. to give leaf:fruit ratios of about 50 (heavy crop load), 100 (moderate load) or 150 (light load). Light cropping increased individual fruit weight and resulted in high juice concentrations of citric acid and reducing sugars. Crop load had no effect on the juice content/fruit, % Brix or fruit colour.
