Study on the microfungi causing root rot in maize monocultures. Effect on yield and seed dressing control trials

Study on the microfungi causing root rot in maize monocultures. Effect on yield and seed dressing control trials

Mededelingen van de Faculteit Landbouwwetenschappen, Rijksuniversiteit Gent 54(2b): 573-583

Observations were made in 1987 in 18 maize fields, mainly monocultures. At the 5 leaf stage, rotting of the mesocotyl and seminal roots was observed. The main fungi isolated were Pythium graminicola (53% of the fungi) and Fusarium spp. (23%). At harvest, plants also showed stalk rot symptoms. No relation was found between symptom severity and number of years of monoculture.
