Study on the selection of suitable pulse intercrop to rainfed maize in vertisol

In rabi season field trials at Kovilpatti in 1984-86, maize K1 was grown in pure stands or intercropped in a 1:1 ratio with greengram cv CO4, blackgram CO5, cowpeas CO4, lablab CO9 or mochai CO2 (in 1985 only). All legumes were also grown in pure stands. Intercrops and pure stand maize were given 45 kg N + 25 kg P2O5 in both seasons and 45 kg N + 45 kg P2O5 in 1985-86 alone.
