Substrate. Practical research on substrate systems. Reducing substrate volume is the object of further research

Substrate. Practical research on substrate systems. Reducing substrate volume is the object of further research

Groenten en Fruit 45(41): 38-39

Descriptions are given of 5 closed substrate systems under trial for glasshouse crops, with normal or reduced volumes of rockwool. The nutrient solution is recirculated. The most commonly used rockwool mat is 15 x 10 x 7.5 cm (providing a volume of 14 litres rockwool/msuperscript 2), and the volume reductions to 11.3, 8.5 or 5.6 litres/msuperscript 2 were achieved by reducing the width from 15 to 12, 9 or 6 cm, respectively.
