Synthesis and antimicrobial testing of substituted aminocarbonylmethylthionaphthoquinones
Several derivatives of aminocarbonylmethylthionaphthoquinones were prepared by the action of various amines on the new quinone intermediates 2-carbethoxymethylthio-1,4-naphthoquinone and 3-carbethoxymethylthio-2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone. The prepared compounds were tested as antimicrobial agents against Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 4163, Escherchia coli NCTC 5933, and Candida albicans 3501. The prepared aminocarbonylmethylthionaphthoquinones showed antimicrobial activity against the gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and the fungus Candida albicans, though less active than the starting quinones. IR, 1HNMR and M.S. spectra of representative compounds were studied.
