Synthesis and field evaluation of sex pheromone of the beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua Hubner)

Plant Protection Bulletin, Taiwan 30(3): 303-309
Synthesis and field evaluation of sex pheromone of the beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua Hubner)
The 2 main components of the sex pheromone of the noctuid Spodoptera exigua have been identified as (9Z,12E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate and (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol. A new method for synthesizing these 2 compounds is reported. A total of 550 micro g of the synthesized products in a 10:1 ratio, injected into a PE microtube was tested in the field in Taiwan to evaluate its trapping effectiveness for male moths.
