System of genetic control of spring habit in bread wheat
Diallel crosses were made involving 5 varieties, the near-isogenic lines Triple Dirk D and Triple Dirk F, and 2 lines of Chinese Spring and Milturum 553 monosomic for chromosomes 5A and 5B. Segregation for habit in the F2 indicated that 2 dominant Vrn genes control spring habit in Triple Dirk D, Triple Dirk F, Buryatskaya 34, Pyrothrix 28 and Milturum 553, while one gene (Vrn1), located on chromosome 5A, conditions spring habit in Bezenchukskaya 98.
