Systemic candidiasis: an unusual complication of eating mutton

, : Systemic candidiasis: an unusual complication of eating mutton. Bmj 299(6698): 557-558

A case is reported in a 36-yr-old man who was referred from Greece with a fever of unknown origin. He had previously undergone a laparotomy for peritonitis and perforation of the small bowel was found, possibly caused by a meat bone which was also found. His examination included funduscopy which revealed white fluffy lesions characteristic of candidal endophthalmitis and CT of the thorax revealing pleural effusion and left costochondral lesions with soft tissue swelling and bony destruction.
