A temp. probe, triggering an acoustic signal, was inserted into the vaginas of 57 cows in 4 dairy herds 1-2 days prior to expected calving. The alarm was triggered an average of 60+or-36 (10-150) min before the end of parturition in 53 of the cows, 6 of the alarms being false.
