The introductory paper deals with general trends in food consumption in the GFR, the outlook for the EC Single Market in 1992, the impact of multinationals on the GFR food industry, trends in loss of market share in GFR food production 1970-87, the structural position of the GFR vis-a-vis EC competitors as regards enterprise size and level of concentration in the milling industry, the dairy industry, and the meat and livestock industry.
