The effect of split application of Ca(OH)2 and phosphorus on dry matter yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) and the main forms of soil phosphorus

In greenhouse pot trials at Piracicaba, Brazil, in 1983-84, 2 crops of sorghum Brandes were grown for 40 days with or without lime to raise soil pH to 5.5 applied 20 days before the 1st crop or 20 days before the 2nd crop and with 0, 44 or 88 p.p.m. P applied all at sowing of the 1st crop or 50% at sowing of the 1st crop and the remainder at the sowing of the 2nd crop. Split application of P led to better use of P by the 2nd crop. Liming improved plant development as did application of P.
