Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health 19(4): 709-712

The malaria situation in the Philippines with special reference to mosquito vectors

A map shows where malaria is endemic in 72 of 75 provinces in the Philippines, together with zones which were malaria-free but where it could recur and the distribution of the 5 main vector species: A. flavirostris (the principal vector), A. balabacensis, A. mangyanus, A. litoralis and A. maculatus. The basic ecology and history of biosystematic studies and control are briefly outlined for each of these.
