Thinning a natural sapling stand of Benguet pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon)

Thinning a natural sapling stand of Benguet pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon)

Sylvatrop 10(1): 1-8

The effects of different intensities of thinning (removal of 0, 30, 50, 70% of the total basal area) on the growth of a 5- to 8-yr-old naturally regenerated stand at Bobok, Bokod, Benguet, Philippines, were determined by measuring diameter, height and basal area increment every year for 3 yr. Removal of 50% and 70% total basal area significantly increased the diameter and height growth of trees, in comparison with data from control unthinned plots.
