Tissue culture of narcissus improved. Hot water treatment reduces Fusarium infection

Tissue culture of narcissus improved. Hot water treatment reduces Fusarium infection

Bloembollencultuur 100(11): 22-24

Infection by Fusarium spp. is a serious problem in tissue culture of narcissus bulbs (using twin-scaling). Preliminary studies with Golden Harvest showed that hot-water treatment of the bulbs was more effective than chlorine disinfection of the twin-scales. Bulbs of several cultivars were lifted and stored at 30 degrees C for up to 21 weeks before being given hot-water treatment of 54 degrees for 1 h.
