The number of individuals of B. xylophilus successfully carried by adults of Monochamus alternatus from dead pine trees, and the temporal pattern of nematode transmission to pine twigs were examined in Japan. All adult beetles from a population from Nara carried nematodes when they emerged from the tree in which they developed and 94.7% of those from a population from Mie. The mean numbers of nematodes carried by a beetle from the Nara and Mie populations were 1300 and 1203, respectively.
