Use of genes for reduced plant height in a wheat breeding programme in Romania. II. Performance of semidwarf genotypes carrying the gene Rht1 compared with genotypes of normal height in comparative trials

The difference between carriers and non-carriers of the gene in mean yield varied between -879 and +1370 kg/ha in 176 yield trials in all regions of Romania during 1983-88. The yield advantage of the Rht1 carriers did not depend on the mean yield of the trial but was related to the degree of lodging and the number of days from sowing to emergence.
