Use of mutants for breeding tomato in Byelorussia

Plants of SK2/2-2 X Geneva II and SK2/2-2 X Prevoskhodnyi 176, bred in the Byelorussian SSR, were treated in Moscow with gamma ray doses at 0.06-0.19 Gy/h. Individual selection for earliness and yield gave 92 lines, which were evaluated under artificial infection for resistance to Phytophthora. Of 71 resistant mutant lines selected, 10 were promising for a combination of useful traits. GP2, GP6 and 108059-12 combined earliness with high yield and resistance to P. infestans.
