Use of nitrogenous fertilizers to accelerate the growth of Norway spruce advance growth on felled areas

Use of nitrogenous fertilizers to accelerate the growth of Norway spruce advance growth on felled areas

Lesovedenie (5): 20-28

Nitrogen fertilizer was applied 1 yr before and 2 yr after felling the 50-yr-old birch of a secondary stand having an irregular advance growth of spruce approx. 20 yr old and mainly 1.0-1.5 m tall. Details are given of the increment of the spruce since 1976 (the birch was felled in winter 1976/77). Results show that, after the felling, the spruce advance growth increased its increment, but the N deficit also worsened, especially in wet periods.
