Use of nuclear polyhedrosis virus for the control of the tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Field studies were carried out in Japan between 1983 and 1985 on the control of the noctuid Spodoptera litura in soyabeans using a nuclear polyhedrosis virus. Applications of 3 x 1012 and 1.5 x 1012 polyhedral inclusion bodies/25 litres per ha increased yield to 170% that of untreated fields. The increase was due to enlargement of the soyabean grain.
