Use of peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique for light microscopical detection of Listeria monocytogenes in liver, spleen and kidneys of experimentally infected mice

The PAP technique (rabbit system) was applied to paraffin sections of liver, spleen and kidneys of five mice which had been experimentally infected with L. monocytogenes. Listeriae were positively recorded from all three organs of all animals. They were present in high numbers in centres and in peripheral regions of necrobiotic and necrotic foci of liver and spleen as well as in tubulo-epithelial cells of the renal cortex.
