Use of physiological techniques for accelerating winter wheat breeding

Ispol' zovanie iskusstvennogo klimata v selektsionno geneticheskikh issledovaniyakh: 43-49

Methods based on use of a phytotron were devised which enabled 3 hybrid generations to be raised in the Ukraine in a year. Crosses were made in the field and hybrid grain was harvested 20-25 days after flowering. Its dormancy was broken. The F1 plants were vernalized and raised during summer-autumn in growth chambers. The F2 hybrids were tested as 8-day-old seedlings for electrical resistance and selection for frost resistance was performed on this basis.
