Use of protected methionine in feeding of cows

Experiments were carried out with 50 Hungarian Fleckvieh .times. Holstein Friesian cows. In the 1st 60 days of lactation the milk production was increased by 2.46 kg (8.9%) in comparison with the controls by feeding of 15 g DL-methionine protected by 60 g stearine. Supplementation had no effect on the milk composition. At the same time the experimental cows produced significantly more dry matter, milk fat, milk protein .times. and milk sugar.
