Experiments with recombinant porcine somatotropin (rPsT) at 3 centres in the Netherlands, the German Federal Republic and UK all clearly showed considerable improvements from using rPST, both in terms of growth rate and feed efficiency, and particularly in the leaness of the carcass. The most dramatic increases were in the rate of deposition of the lean tissue and in daily nitrogen retention. This was true over weight ranges between 35 and 140 kg.
