Use of resistance genes in biological plant protection against wheat powdery mildew

Based on results of trials between 1971 and 1988, wheat genotypes were grouped into 3 categories according to Erysiphe graminis resistance genes: (1) genes whose resistance is ineffective (Pm1, Pm3a, Pm3b, Pm3c, Pm7 and Ml-i); (2) genes or gene combinations whose resistance has been eroded (Pm2, Pm2 + Ml-d, Pm5, Pm6, Pm2 + 6 and Pm8); and (3) effective resistance genes (Pm4a, Pm4a+, Pm4b and Pm4b+).
