Use of rockwool byproducts is also possible in ornamental culture

Use of rockwool byproducts is also possible in ornamental culture

Gartenbau 35(4): 119-120

Good rooting was obtained with cuttings of pelargoniums, chrysanthemums and euphorbias in rockwool byproduct, which is a mixture of rockwool filaments and clinker obtained after the melting process. It is abundant and sterile, enabling savings to be made by omitting the steam sterilization treatment given to conventional substrates, and it may be ground down to improve the texture. In trials with pelargoniums, more cuttings per mother plant were obtained than with conventional substrate.
