Use of specific drugs in the dissection of the adhesive process in diatoms

Use of specific drugs in the dissection of the adhesive process in diatoms

Marine biodeterioration: 337-343

Control of macrofouling by antifouling coatings has revealed a further problem, i.e. fouling by microbial slimes. These are a mixture of microorganisms, but the largest components are bacteria and microalgae. In many cases, the algae are diatoms Diatoms may promote the accumulation of bacteria on surfaces as a result of syntrophic interactions. Using a quantitative assay, the influence of several drugs on adhesion was investigated.
