The trypomastigote stage of T. cruzi is able to invade a variety of vertebrate cell types. Studies of molecular interactions involved in the trypomastigote interiorization suggest that host-cell fibronectin, and a trypomastigote-specific surface antigen might mediate the attachment of the pathogen to the host cell.
