Use of the inventory-monitoring system for shortleaf and eastern white pine cone and seed crops at the Beech Creek seed orchard

The inventory-monitoring system involves periodic inspection of sample trees and branches to measure the survival of the initial cone crop and to predict expected cone and seed yields at maturity. Descriptions are given of the methods used for eastern white pine (Pinus strobus) from a North Carolina source and shortleaf pine (P. echinata) from Kentucky, both growing at Beech Creek seed orchard, North Carolina.
