Use of the prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor, flunixin meglumine, to prevent shock in horses undergoing surgery for colic

Use of the prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor, flunixin meglumine, to prevent shock in horses undergoing surgery for colic

Pferdeheilkunde 5(5): 275-284

Flunixin meglumine was applied to 23 surgically treated horses twice at a dose of 1.1 mg/kg bodyweight before and after the operation. 20 routinely treated ileus patients formed the control group. The symptoms of the animals which received flunixin improved significantly after surgery compared with the control group, although the horses of the flunixin-treated group were in worse condition when they arrived at the hospital.
