Use of top-cross designs for predicting performance of maize single cross hybrids

Maydica 35(1): 23-27

The efficiency of different predictors of hybrid performance, computed from a testcross design (48 inbred lines crossed with 3 testers), was assessed using 2 sets of about 50 hybrids. When only one tester was considered the data from crosses involving F251 (an early French flint line with poor per se value) gave a better prediction than data from the other testers, F252 and F230.
