Eight lines with high combining ability in test crosses of 300 lines with GK26 in the Ukraine during 1983-84 were used to produce single, double and 8-line hybrids during 1985-86. In the F2 of the 8-line hybrid, the synthetic population Dneprovskaya 2 was selected. In 1987, 122 S0 plants of the population were crossed with 2-3 plants of the line GK26M and the hybrids were tested under irrigation in 1988.
