Usefulness of measuring lactate levels in the diagnosis and prognosis of cerebral malaria in children in an endemic zone (Zaire)

CSF lactic acid levels were measured in 2 groups of children aged from 2 months to 12 years immediately on admission and 48 h after admission to hospital in Kinshasa, Zaire. Group 1 comprised 21 children with cerebral malaria and with a Plasmodium-positive thick blood smear.
