Using anther culture to generate haploids for use in breeding vegetables

Areas in which anther culture has been successfully applied to vegetable breeding are surveyed. Members of the Solanaceae have generally been particularly amenable to anther culture (e.g. Capsicum and aubergine) although exceptions exist (tomatoes). Anther culture has also been used to generate higher yielding (male) asparagus plants.
