Using copper chelate for defoliation

Using copper chelate for defoliation

Deutsche Baumschule 40(8): 356-357

The effectiveness of a copper chelate solution (Actiron CU 900 L, 2%) for chemical defoliation of young apple trees prior to transplantation was confirmed in trials in 1985-1987. With all cultivars tested, >90% defoliation was obtained within 3 weeks of the application in Sep. or Oct. In the following year no differences were observed in the date of bud break, shoot growth or leaf development between treated and untreated control trees.
