Using drier effectiveness for evaluating seed cotton drying systems

Using drier effectiveness for evaluating seed cotton drying systems

Paper American Society of Agricultural Engineers ( 89-1012): 24 pp.

The effectiveness of an experimental conditioner and that of 3 drying systems at commercial gins was evaluated and found to be a reliable method of assessing the performance of seed cotton driers. In the multidrum conditioner, effectiveness was a function of air and seed cotton flow rates and was higher than for all driers. Tower driers were more effective than the high velocity blowbox/inclined cleaner system and the turbulent chamber drier system was reasonably effective.
