Using machine vision to inspect oilseeds

INFORM International News on Fats, Oils and Related Materials 1(1): 50-55

Typical components of a machine vision system for inspecting soyabean seeds are described. An algorithm for detecting fungal damage was tested on 1250 soyabeans which had been manually sorted into 5 categories, viz., healthy, and infected by Phomopsis sp., Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp. or Cercospora kikuchii. Approx. 98% of seeds were correctly classified as healthy or infected. C. kikuchi, P. sp., F. sp. and A. sp. were correctly identified in 91, 90, 83 and 77% of tests, respectively.
