Using recurrent selection methods in the breeding and primary seed production of monogerm sugarbeet varietal populations

Various types of recurrent selection used at the Yaltushkov Breeding Station in the Ukraine to improve monogerm populations are outlined. Simple recurrent selection was sufficiently effective in maintaining and improving varietal populations. Reciprocal recurrent selection was also effective, with maintenance of the purity of genotypes by cloning or tissue culture.
