In 1986, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) supported a project calling for the implementation of an action research project to test the feasibility of using certain forms of traditional or folk media to carry environment-related concepts and messages, and the initiation of collaborative relationships between traditional performers and government/non-government institutions and agencies involved in environmental concerns.
