Using vaginal conductivity to determine the optimum breeding time in pigs

Using vaginal conductivity to determine the optimum breeding time in pigs

Journal of Chinese Society of Animal Science 18(3-4): 67-73

The conductivity of the vaginal mucosa measured during oestrus in 7 gilts was compared with changes in plasma hormone concentrations. Vaginal conductivity increased from 6-9 at 24-42 h after the onset of oestrus to 10-11 48 h later. The concentration of oestradiol was very low (2-4 pg/ml) at 24 h, and remained at low levels (1-6 pg/ml) up to 48 h. Plasma LH concentration at 32 h was very low (0.5-1.5 ng/ml).
