Usurpation by conspecific queens of Vespa simillima xanthoptera Cameron (Hym., Vespidae)

The effect on a colony of Vespa simillima xanthoptera of a change of queens was studied in Japan during 1985-86. Queens were subject to conspecific usurpations and successfully usurped nests, whether artificial or natural, produced colonies which were smaller than non-usurped colonies.
