Variations of some chemical and physical properties of a sandy loam soil as a consequence of different tillage methods

The effects on variations of bulk density, total, free and bound organic matter contents, stability and density of aggregates induced by no-tillage and two tillage methods (25 cm and 50 cm ploughing) have been studied in a sandy laom soil, after maize cultivation. The highest contents of organic matter have been observed in the 25 cm ploughing. This parameter seems to be influenced, although not in the same way in the bound and free fractions, by climatic condition. The aggregate stability decreases along the soil profile and with the tillage depth and every year it results to be correlated with the organic matter content. During the trial (five years) a progressive increase of the aggregate stability is observed, together with a decrease of aggregate density and organic matter content. The aggregate density variations are independent from the other properties.
